What You'll Do:

Get John’s latest book, free with camp sign up.  John Collins, world record holder for paper airplane distance, shows the tricks and tips for designing your own paper airplanes.  Learn control surfaces, three axis control, center of gravity, drag, lift, thrust, stalls, circles, loops, flapping planes, and more.  You’ll get the skinny on reading folding diagrams and learn some great folding moves including reverse, sink, petal, squash, and waterbomb folds.

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to make a great paper airplane, this series of classes is designed for you.  Go from zero to hero in four one hour sessions.  If you’re already good at paper airplanes, John will make you better.  You’ll learn how full sized aircraft work, how gliders work, and of course how that applies to paper airplanes.  If you’re a budding aeronautical engineer, some hands-on learning will give you a real feel for flight.

Skill Level:

If you can fold a piece of paper in half, you're ready.

Basic paper folding techniques Aerodynamics Intermediate paper folding techniques Paper airplane design Throwing and adjusting paper airplanes

What You'll Need:

20lb paper - US letter size (8.5 x 11 inches)  This is the paper in most printers in the US Tracing paper or phone directory paper is handy for one of the planes, but not required for the class.

About the Facilitator:

John Collins (The Paper Airplane Guy) is the world record holder for paper airplane distance and author of four books of original paper aircraft. John is an award winning keynote speaker and has spoken at TedX Munich, WIRED25, Google Zeitgeist, Harvard's Graduate School of Design, Carnegie Mellon, SalesForce, Genentech, Intuit, Sony, Mattel, Boeing, and many others.  John has appeared on Conan, Discovery, WIRED, NatGeo, Disney, ESPN, TV Globo, NHK Japan, Ripley's Believe it or Not, and many others.

John is an original Maker Faire exhibitor, having been part of every Bay Area Maker Faire from the inception.

The Paper Airplane Guy usually performs around 90 shows per year for schools, libraries, charity events and keynote/corporate gigs.  He's taught hundreds of thousands of people how to make paper airplanes.
